Welcome to the Anesthesiology Residency program! I'm so delighted that you are considering a career in anesthesiology. After completing my anesthesiology training at IU School of Medicine in 2009, I immediately stepped into my faculty role and have had the exceptional opportunity to act as the chair for residency selection since 2012. I enjoy mentoring medical students about careers in anesthesiology and helping them navigate the match process. Choosing a training program is not an easy process as everyone learns a little bit differently, but the program at IU School of Medicine uses a multi-faceted approach to educating all types of learners. Our ultimate goal is to help you become a clinically competent, board-certified anesthesiologist. We provide you with an extremely robust clinical experience across five tertiary hospitals as the only anesthesiology program in the state. We have created a high-yield didactics program that will help you organize your study to prepare for both the Basic Exam and the yearly in-training exams. Moreover, we have one of the largest, state-of-the-art simulation training centers in the United States. Oral board, POCUS, TEE and OSCE training occurs throughout your residency. Aside from our educational strength, diversity, inclusion, equality and wellness are all topics that are highly valued within the department and across the IU School of Medicine as a whole.
We seek physicians who are motivated and compassionate with an overall sense of team. I find that our residents are one of the greatest assets of our department in that they work collaboratively and have created a unique camaraderie that truly enhances your ability to learn in a very supportive environment. Our faculty are just as invested as you are in your future success and the fellowship across the faculty and residents in clearly evident. I'd be happy to discuss anesthesia as a career option and how the program at Indiana University can help you fulfill that goal.
