The postgraduate training program in anesthesiology at Indiana University is designed to provide resident physicians with clinical experience in all aspects of the specialty, along with an educational program that stimulates residents to excel in the science of anesthesiology. The five teaching hospitals utilized by the Department of Anesthesia are located on the same Indiana University Medical Center campus, allowing our residents to gain varied clinical experience in one closely knit complex. Our department offers an exciting and stimulating instructional program developed to meet the resident physician's level of training, beginning with introductory lectures for the clinical anesthesia 1 (CA-1) residents and culminating in mock orals for the senior trainees. Progress in both the academic and clinical aspects of anesthesiology is closely monitored and appropriate counseling given.

The Indiana University Medical Center has many unique research facilities. For those residents pursuing academic careers, our department offers diverse and challenging research options with established basic science and clinical investigators. I welcome the occasion to share with you my thoughts and goals regarding anesthesia training and education. You have chosen a specialty with the potential for great rewards and an exciting future. It would be my pleasure to have you visit the Indiana University Medical Center to learn more about the opportunities provided by the Department of Anesthesia.
